A car insurance price comparison website, Moneysupermarket.com, has announced that it will offer car insurance that complies with halal rules to its customers.
The halal car insurance is provided by Salaam Halal Insurance and allows customers to take out car insurance from an insurance company that has an ethical stance and does not contradict the rules set out in the Koran. Halal car insurance products are designed with the supervision of a Shariah Supervisory Committee.
The car insurance policy could also be attractive to other customers and non-Muslims who would like a car insurance company that does not invest in industries such as tobacco or alcohol.
The chief executive of Salaam Halal Insurance, Bradley Brandon Cross, "Prior to the launch of Salaam Halal insurance in July 2008 there were no alternatives to conventional UK insurance, which conflict with the core beliefs of the Muslim faith."
Salaam Halal Insurance is the first car insurance provider in the UK to offer Islamic car insurance based on the Shariah principle of Takaful which allows customers to have great value car insurance without compromising the principles of their faith.
In the UK, halal usually describes food which is seen as permissible according to Islamic law and conforms to Muslim dietary requirements. However, the original Arabic word has a much broader meaning and covers any product which complies with the edicts of Islam.
Car Insurance always includes some exclusions and limitations which should be checked carefully. If in doubt you should check your car insurance policy wording carefully.
