Toyota Yaris Overview
The Toyota Yaris was first launched a decade ago and quickly won European Car of the Year in 2000, with the same basic shape and styling maintained until 2005. The Toyota Yaris quickly became one of the most popular superminis on the market and the range was bulked out with a more family-friendly version called the Yaris Verso, which was designed to put practicality above all else without relying on an over-inflated size. In 2005 the Yaris was redesigned by Toyota's European team, with tweaks made to the engines and the 1 litre VVTi unit from the original replaced by the same engine found in the diminutive Toyota Aygo. The Aygo is even smaller than the Yaris, with two doors and a single glass window allowing access to the boot and it is virtually identical to the Citroen C1 and the Peugeot 107. The Toyota Yaris has found considerable popularity in the UK market, with its introduction proving to be stiff competition for the Renault Clio, Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa which were already established before the Yaris arrived on the scene.
The Toyota Yaris has managed to retain its popularity for a variety of reasons, but build quality, reliability and performance are amongst the many keys to its success. It also looked futuristic when it was first released and has inspired most of the other manufacturers to produce their latest superminis with smarter designs, allowing for better use of space and more versatile functionality.
If you pick a Toyota Yaris that has been made after 05/06 you will be able to take advantage of several benefits and improvements, including more cabin space and better leg room in the back. You can even slide the back seats to give more load space, or fold them completely flush with the level of the boot, meaning every single modern Yaris can tackle a number of tasks that are sure to be encountered throughout the year. On top of all this the Yaris has two cup holders in the front. With its economic engines available and its excellent pricing, it is easy to see why the Yaris has managed to become so popular in the UK.
Cheap Car Insurance for Toyota Yaris
At the very bottom end of the Yaris range the 1 litre petrol engine is efficient for its class and most importantly it is in insurance group 1, meaning getting a cheap car insurance quote for a Toyota Yaris should be relatively easy. Do not expect to be blown away by the performance, as 62mph will be hit in a fairly sedate 15.2 seconds and the top speed of 96mph is not going to see you whizzing around Silverstone any time soon, but with its family focused design this should not really be an issue.
The 1.8 litre VVT-I SR is the fastest and consequently the most expensive to insure, but again cheap car insurance should be possible thanks to the insurance group 7 ranking of this nippy little car. If you are in the market for a diesel engine then there are a selection of 1.4 litre engines on offer, with performance varying depending on the option you choose and insurance groups varying between 4 and 5.
