Honda Jazz Overview
The Honda Jazz entered the UK market back in 2002 and despite its slightly mundane looks it managed to gain popularity because of its status as an extremely practical and spacious vehicle that was still, in effect, a 'small' car. The market for family vehicles is always competitive, but it was by making intelligent design choices from the offset that Honda was able to make the Jazz a tough contender. For example, the fuel tank is mounted under the front seats rather than in the rear, which gives much more room for seating and load space towards the back than is traditionally found. Multiple seat configurations in the rear also added to the versatility. Back in 2006 the Honda Jazz was voted as the second best car on the roads by the Top Gear audience, in the largest ever automotive survey performed in the UK. This accolade was awarded to the Honda Jazz because it was considered by many to be the closest realistic representation of the perfect all-round car that money could buy and the commendation shows just how truly popular the Jazz is.
Nearly a third of all Honda cars sold in Europe are Jazz models and in 2008 a new version was released, offering improved engines, more space than ever before and an excellent degree of visibility from within the vehicle, making the Jazz a very safe car to be driving. On the outside it is clear that the new Jazz has had a few aesthetic upgrades as well and it looks a little bit sportier without being off-putting. Rather than completely revolutionising the design of its most popular vehicle, Honda has instead chosen to enhance its existing capabilities, making it even better than before whilst maintaining the attention of fans of the original. The major criticism levelled at the new Jazz is the slightly firm ride quality, but the general levels of comfort within the car are held to be excellent.
Best Car Insurance for Honda Jazz
There are only two engine sizes available for the latest version of the Jazz, with a choice of either a 1.2 petrol or a 1.4 i-VTEC. The former sits in insurance group 4 whilst the latter is in group 5. This means that getting the best car insurance prices for the Honda Jazz should be simple and the running costs can be kept low when the reliability of the Honda brand is taken into account. The 1.2 litre engine is surprisingly powerful, with 88bhp and a 0-60 speed of 12.1 seconds. The 1.4 is a second quicker to 60, although if you pick a Jazz that has an automatic gearbox you should expect to see this time slip significantly in the other direction. However, the smooth, simple driving afforded by the automatic is enough to make up for this loss of speed.
If you are looking for an alternative to the Ford Focus, the Vauxhall Astra or the Skoda Fabia then the Jazz is much cleverer and has the public following to prove it.
