Modern day motoring can be a hazardous exercise. There are so many drivers on the road and the standards of driving are not always as we would hope. Now the Driving Standards Agency has come together with driving instructors and car insurance companies to put together a course, called Pass Plus, initially aimed at newly qualified drivers, but also available to anyone who wishes to refresh their driving skills. The course aims to help newly qualified drivers gain more confidence with motorway driving, night driving, and dual carriageways, all things which it takes many drivers a good deal of time to master. The added bonus is that it can get you up to 30% discount on your car insurance. That alone probably makes it worth the extra effort.
Pass Plus - Raising Awareness
Many of us take driving for granted, but it is understood that at any one time only one in four drivers is paying absolute attention to detail, which is worrying when you consider that one of the main things that is encouraged when you take your driving lessons is that you must concentrate at all times. It is also a fact that as we get older we become more confident of our own abilities, but there are a significant number of speeding incidents involving people who have been driving for many years, especially in the over 40 to 55 age group. The Pass Plus course is an ideal opportunity to reassess your driving skills and also to brush up on some of the areas which may have changed slightly since you took your driving test. Pass Plus contains six modules in total, which include, driving on motorways, driving at night, driving on rural roads, driving on dual carriageways, driving in all weathers and driving in a town environment. All of theses areas are potentially hazardous, so the concentration is on awareness and taking stock of what lies ahead.
Young Drivers Insurance and Pass Plus
To be eligible for the Pass Plus course you only have to have a full United Kingdom driving licence. You will be assessed over the course of the six modules. As you are continually assessed, there is no test to take at the end of it, however, you must pass all six modules to be successful, and this can mean that either you achieve or exceed the standard. Each course module takes approximately one hour, and costs the equivalent of a driving lesson. The Pass Plus course must be taken with an approved driving instructor. One of the supporters of the Pass Plus scheme is Endsleigh Insurance and like other insurers, they will offer a discount for young drivers who have passed the course. This is especially useful for younger drivers. It is one way of keeping the costs of car insurance to a minimum, and it may well be that the cost of the course is more than paid for by the savings made on insurance premiums.

Any help to improve or keep driving standards high has to be welcomed. The Pass Plus course will help raise road awareness, and help you to anticipate hazards as they present themselves. All with the added bonus that, in the long run, it could save you money.
