Cheap car insurance provider esure have announced a few easy steps for motorists to follow when applying for a quote to help save money and find cheaper car insurance.

A lower-than-average annual mileage can reduce the cost of car insurance premiums so the cheap car insurance provider suggests having an accurate estimation of your annual mileage to hand when applying for car insurance quotes.

Some cheap car insurance companies will add a surcharge for drivers who want to pay their car insurance premium monthly rather than in one lump sum. If you can afford to do so, paying the premium in full will help you find cheap car insurance.

Agreeing to an increased voluntary excess will also increase the likelihood of cheap car insurance.

Head of risk and underwriting at esure car insurance, Mike Pickard, said: "How you pay, who is on your policy and what excess you choose can all go some way to driving down your premium."
