Ford Mondeo Overview
The Ford Mondeo is now on its fourth generation, and has always been a staunch favourite with area managers and sales reps, so to some extent the Mondeo has suffered a similar fate to that of its rival the Vauxhall Vectra. The Mondeo has been largely unable to shake off the perception as being mainly a company car, but the new generation of Mondeos are aimed at trying to change that view, and the car is firmly targeted at the family, in addition to the company market that it serves so well.
Typifying this is the new two litre Mondeo with a Duratec petrol engine. The car is able to reach a top speed of one hundred and thirty miles per hour, and can achieve 0 to 60 in just under 10 seconds. The car is much roomier than its predecessor. It is responsive, and feels larger than the previous Mondeo. It has the speed and the power, but the Ford Mondeo is quite capable of handling cruising speeds, and is able to cope nicely with some of the poorer road conditions. The car provides a comfortable ride, and is only tested on some of the roads where damage has not been repaired. There is very little wind resistance and the overall impression is of a very comfortable ride. Seats are comfortable as well as roomy, and can be adjusted electronically. The interior is designed using a satin aluminium finish, and you can tell that some degree of thought has gone into the layout of the vehicle inside.
One thing that you notice immediately in the new Ford Mondeo is the huge improvement in build quality, which probably sees the Mondeo able to compete with more expensive competitors. Space is obviously something that Ford has tried to supply with the new Ford Mondeo, because in addition to the huge amount of boot space, there are also 'cubby' holes and storage spaces within the cabin which will be extremely useful on long journeys. Ford have raised their game significantly with the new Ford Mondeo, and the car can almost be considered to have jumped a class. Whether this is reflected in terms of sales is yet to be seen, but certainly some of Ford's competitor will be looking over their shoulders when they see what the competition has become.
Ford seems to have taken clear aim at the family market, and there are a number of variants that should mean that any family requirements are fully met. It will still perform its role as a motorway workhorse, of course, but it has developed into something more.
