Peugeout 207 Overview
Peugeot have set themselves a huge challenge. They already had huge successes with the Peugeot 205 and the 206, which have sold over five million vehicles worldwide, but they are now trying to do the same with Peugeot 207, so Peugeot are hoping it will be third time lucky. The Peugeot 207 is aimed fairly and squarely within the supermini category and Peugeot have tried to address some of the complaints levelled at the Peugeot 206, namely the poor interior design and standards of equipment. Obviously, Peugeot have had to try and do this without falling into the trap of producing a significantly more expensive model. Priced competitively with rival competitor models such as the Renault Clio and the Fiat Grande Punto, Peugeot are describing the Peugeot 207 as setting new standards for the equipment levels and trim quality. The striking new look was designed at the company's own plant and should ensure it has a new generation of admirers. It is flashier and sportier, whilst still following the basic design and style of the newer 307 and 407, but with shades of the 206 about it. The car comes as a three or five door hatchback, although it is available in a number of derivatives, which means it is able to compete with the family style Vauxhall Zafira type vehicle. There are six petrol engine models available and also three diesels. Petrol engines start at 1.4 litres, but there are also 1.6 versions available which can include VTi and turbo options, the top range of which can produce 175 bhp. The diesel range also features a 1.6 HDi turbocharged model.
The new Peugeot 207 is, even at the basic level, way above the top if the range versions of the 206. The overall effect of the new model is very up market with its elegant level of refinement and extra attention to detail. The driver and passenger seats are extremely comfortable, although the back passengers may find space restricted once the front seats have been extended back. There are choices of two air conditioning units which include fragrance diffusers, complete with fragrance designed by one of the leading French perfume suppliers. In addition, it also includes a range of automatic functions, including front windscreen wipers, dipping beam, automatic reverse control, remote radio control and electric windows.
