Prudential Car Insurance Overview

Prudential Car insurance is part of Prudential PLC, a financial services business, with more than 20 million customers around the world, which previously also owned Egg online bank and credit card in the UK (which grew quickly and was later sold to an American bank). The company was founded in London in the mid 19th century, as one of the first institutions providing loans to ordinary individuals and later expanded into selling very affordable insurance premiums to those who could not typically afford cover, via its 'man from the Pru' network of salespeople (later referenced in the firm's marketing). The company also plans to become the main sponsor of Manchester United in a forthcoming season, taking over from American insurance firm AIG. Prudential Insurance is operated as a separate division from other parts of the company, and is now operated by Churchill Insurance (part of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group), under the Prudential name - a similar arrangement is in place for many of the UK's other large insurance brands.

Prudential offer three different levels of car insurance cover to suit each customer's needs: third party, third party plus fire and theft and fully comprehensive. The latter two categories both include a courtesy car guaranteed to all customers using one of the firm's approved repair agents. Comprehensive car insurance covers any damage to your vehicle, caused either accidentally or maliciously, cover for injuries sustained to a person (including medical expenses), and loss or damage to items stored within one's car. For customers buying online, it is possible to get a discount of up to 10%, whilst a further 65% can be saved for customers with sufficient proven no claims bonus history (5 years required for maximum discount). Plus, for customers aged over 50, this discount can be increased up to 70%

For customers whose car is less than a year old suffering damage that would cost more than 60% of the cost of the car new - the Prudential will give you just that - a new equivalent model, like-for-like (including 'stolen recovered' vehicles). There is peace of mind for customers who are the unfortunate victim of an uninsured driver, with the company's promise that you will not lose your no claims bonus in these circumstances, as well as the company covering your excess. Windscreen repairs also do not affect no claims bonuses, although there is a small excess of £10 for a repaired windscreen, and £75 for a full replacement. At an additional fee, many customers also take up the option of legal cover, which allows you up to £50,000 of legal costs to help claim against any types of accident not covered directly by your main insurance, for ultimate peace of mind. If you have a high level of no claims bonus currently, it might also be a good idea to take out optional no claims bonus cover, meaning if you do have a small bump, you won't risk putting up the price of your premium significantly next year. Another optional extra when buying Prudential car insurance, is taking out discount Green Flag breakdown cover, with a 1 hour response cashback guarantee.
